The Danville Fire Department responded this morning to an explosion and fire at AMA Metal & Auto Recycling at 1692 Halifax Road. The explosion occurred around 8:45 a.m. when a liquid petroleum gas tank ruptured. The tank was beneath a pile of debris.
At 8:52 a.m., the fire department received a call of smoke at the recycling facility. Firefighters responded, but the fire had been extinguished by company personnel.
The incident resulted in one minor injury. Firefighters remain at the facility to monitor the situation.
