The Danville Police Department will hold a job fair to fill a number of positions within its law enforcement, adult detention and juvenile detention divisions.
The job fair takes place from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Pepsi Building, which is located at 629 Craghead St.
“We are looking for candidates who want to make a difference in their community and are willing to become part of a team that is dedicated to making that happen,” Police Chief Philip Broadfoot said Friday. “I encourage all interested candidates to attend and discuss their potential with staff at the job fair.”
The Police Department includes 238 positions in three divisions, with 153 (131 sworn) in law enforcement, 36 (34 sworn) in adult detention and 49 in juvenile detention.
Specifically, the department is seeking to hire 11 police officers for the law enforcement division, 10 youth care workers for the juvenile detention division, and two correctional lieutenants, one correctional captain, one correctional officer and a correctional health assistant for the adult detention division. Salaries for police officers are $35,758, with $29,823 for youth care workers and a range of $32,507 to $39,000 for correctional officers and supervisors.
Candidates for the 11 police officer positions may be eligible for a $1,500 signing bonus. In addition, police and correctional officers receive free academy training while earning a paycheck. All City employees receive sick leave, vacation time, paid holidays and a retirement package (after five years). Police officers receive educational incentive pay.
