[ARCHIVED] Conference set Oct. 31 for domestic violence

Learn more about domestic violence in communities and the laws protecting the rights of victims of domestic violence at a conference to be held from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Center for Housing Education at 502 Franklin St.

The event, “Ending the Silence and Healing the Home,” is free and lunch will be provided, but participants must register by Friday, Oct. 27, by contacting Norma Brower at browenj@danvilleva.gov with the individual/agency name and number attending. Brower is a housing and redevelopment specialist with the City of Danville’s Community Development Department.

Speakers will include representatives from Haven of the Dan River Region, the Virginia Fair Housing Office, the state Office of the Attorney General, Social Services, the Police Department and Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority.

They will address the following topics:

  • “Domestic violence in our communities.”
  • “The laws that protect the rights of victims of domestic violence.”
  • “Human trafficking – How to recognize it and what to do.”
  • “Voices – Victims of domestic violence.”

The event is a collaboration of the Danville Fair Housing Board, Haven of the Dan River Region, Virginia Fair Housing Office, state Office of the Attorney General, the law office of Greg Hairston, City of Danville, Social Services, Danville Redevelopment & Housing Authority, Dan River Region Association of Realtors, and Legal Aid.
