The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a fire at the Goodyear Plant on Goodyear Blvd. today at 6:06 pm. The initial report from the caller stated there was a fire in the Banbury unit. Our apparatus arrived in five minutes and met with the lead of the Goodyear Emergency Response Brigade (ERB). He advised they had a fire in a banbury unit and it had extended towards the roof by way of the duct system. The ERB had been working to contain the fire for approximately 40 minutes prior to our arrival and needed assistance. The fire was mostly contained as we arrived by a deluge system in the duct system. DFD personnel assisted on the roof and in the banbury area. The fire was then marked under control. The next Goodyear shift was starting and more ERB members had arrived for work. They advised the situation was under control and we could clear from the scene. They did state there was no significant damage and production would not be affected by the incident.
The DFD responded with four engines, one ladder truck, and four support vehicles. A total of 21 personnel remained on scene for nearly an hour and a half. There were no injuries.
