[ARCHIVED] Structure Fire on Claiborne Street

The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 514 Claiborne Street this morning at 3:16 am. Apparatus arrived at 3:21 am and found the house was heavily involved with fire. The fire was initially controlled from the exterior. Firefighters then entered the house to search for occupants. Fortunately the occupants had exited the house prior to our arrival. Damage to the house was significant. An adjacent house suffered heat damage. The siding on the house melted. The occupants did not have to leave their residence.

The Fire Marshal's Office investigated the cause of the fire. A space heater in a front room was the cause. The occupants were in this room at the time the fire started. The occupants lost almost all of their belongings in the fire. The local chapter of the Red Cross is assisting 3 adults and 3 children with temporary lodging.

The DFD responded with 3 engines, 1 ladder, and 3 support vehicles. 18 personnel were on the scene for approximately 3 hours. One firefighter suffered a minor injury on the scene but did not require treatment or transport away from the scene. The DFD received assistance from Danville Police, DLSC, Power & Light, and Water & Gas.
