Danville, VA Fire Department Media Releases

[ARCHIVED] Brush fire

The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported brush fire at 393 Barringer Dr this evening at 6:54 pm., Crews arrived at 7:00 pm and found a large field on fire.  Engine 7’s crew pulled fire hose and began attacking the fire. Additional Fire Department resources were called to the scene due to the large size of the fire and the windy weather conditions. Additional units from the Ringgold Volunteer Fire Department and State Forestry Department were requested to assist. The fire was contained and determined to be under control at 7:52 pm. The units remained on scene extinguishing hot spots.The Forestry Department used a bulldozer to cut a fire line around the 5-acre fire.

The Danville Fire Department responded with two engines, a brush truck, a water tender, a command unit, two support units and one Fire Marshal. Twelve fire personnel were on the scene for 2 hours and 20 minutes. The Ringgold Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department responded with two brush trucks, an ambulance and 15 personnel.  The State Forestry Department responded with a bulldozer and five personnel.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office. No injuries were reported.
