The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to 531 First Street for a possible structure fire at 11:50PM on 4/6/18. The first arriving unit found smoke and fire coming from the basement of a two-story house. Engine 1 pulled an interior attack line to the basement and extinguished the fire. The fire also extended to the first floor in the walls of the structure and was extinguished. All residents were out of the structure on the arrival of the fire department.
The Fire Marshall investigated the fire and determined it was accidental by an open flame. The house suffered significant damage to the basement. There was also smoke, heat, and water damage to the rooms of the house. The residence is not livable at this time. The occupants are being assisted by the Danville Chapter of the Red Cross.
The Danville Fire Department responded with 4 engines and 4 support vehicles. There were a total of 16-fire personnel on scene. Support was received from the Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, Water & Gas, and Danville Power & Light.
