[ARCHIVED] North Union Street water main project underway

Rock work sign

Danville Utilities has started replacing the water main within the block of North Union Street between Spring Street and Memorial Drive. The northbound lane is closed. The parking lane on the north side of the street also is closed.

As a result of the lane closures, traffic is restricted to one way only on this block. Southbound traffic coming from Memorial Drive and High Street continues on North Union Street. Traffic coming from Spring Street is being detoured from Floyd Street to High Street and then to North Union Street.

Once the new water main has been installed, the next step in the construction process is to replace each property’s water service line from the water meter to the new main at the street.

During construction, street parking may be restricted temporarily in order to install the new water main and services. Crews will work with businesses in the block to ensure vehicular and pedestrian access is maintained, including access to the City parking lot behind Abe Koplen Clothing.

The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of May.

Motorists are urged to slow down and be alert to altered traffic patterns.
