The Make Danville Shine Expo is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Community Market at 629 Craghead St. The event is free and open to the public.

Learn about home repair and lawn care from experts who will be on site to talk with citizens who want advice about cleaning up or fixing up their property. Ask questions about City services, including debris collection.

The event will include live demonstrations, beginning at 8:30 a.m. with gardening by Danville Master Gardeners. At 9:30 a.m., Virginia Cooperative Extension will provide a cooking demonstration. The final demonstration will be do-it-yourself home repairs by DanTastic Resources.

Take advantage of free document shredding services courtesy of the Danville Police Department and Commonwealth Document Management. Bring the kids and let them enjoy crafts and activities for all ages. City Council members will serve free hot dogs for lunch.

This expo will be held in conjunction with the Farmers Market and will kick off the sixth annual Make Danville Shine campaign, which is a month-long initiative to encourage residents to clean-up, paint-up and fix-up their property.

To assist residents, the Community Development Department is holding this home improvement and lawn care expo, and it will conduct contests and coordinate projects with neighborhood groups and organizations throughout the month. In addition, the Public Works Department again this year will waive several fees and restrictions regarding yard waste, household debris, tire disposal and appliance pickups.
