The Police Department today held its second community engagement day in as many days. Today, the officers were at Cedar Terrace Apartments. On Thursday, officers were at Danville Family Homes on Joanis Drive.

The events included games, music, food and information sessions. The event at Cedar Terrace Apartments was held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event at Danville Family Homes was held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

These events were the latest in a series conducted by the Police Department’s Community and Youth Engagement Unit. Police Chief Scott Booth established the unit earlier this year to focus on crime prevention and community education, youth and community engagement, and blight and nuisance abatement.

The first community engagement day was held on May 31 at Purdum Woods Apartments. Since then, community and youth engagement events have been held at Cardinal Village, Woodside Village, Bibleway Church, Pleasant View Avenue, the Danville Boys and Girls Club and the Danville Family YMCA.

Upcoming events are scheduled at Belk Danville on Friday, Aug. 3, and East New Hope Church on Saturday, Aug. 4. The event at Belk will be a youth engagement fashion show and will take place from noon to 3 p.m. The engagement day event at East New Hope Church will be held from 10 a.m. to noon.
