Final paving is scheduled to begin Friday on the two reconstructed eastbound lanes of Riverside Drive from the bridge over Sandy Creek to Audubon Drive. The paving operation will include repaving the third eastbound lane.
Alternate lane closures will be in place until paving operations are complete, which is expected on Monday. Motorists are urged to slow down when approaching this area and be alert to altered traffic patterns or consider an alternate route.
The lanes will be striped at a later date.
The reconstruction project began in early July, and since that time, eastbound traffic on Riverside Drive has been restricted to the far right lane and subject to a speed limit of 25 mph beginning after the intersection at Mount Cross Road.
The reconstruction consisted of the removal of the existing asphalt pavement and concrete base, and then replacing it with a new stone base and asphalt layers. The new base and surface will eliminate the current uneven riding surface and reduce maintenance costs.
Virginia Carolina Paving of South Boston is the contractor for the project.
