Danville Transit has launched a new bus locator system that will allow riders to use their smartphone, tablet, laptop or desktop devices to view the location of all fixed route buses in real time.
The information is available at https://dtbuslocator.com or can be accessed by going to the transit system’s website — www.danvilletransit.com — and clicking on the text “bus locator system” located along the left rail. A tutorial about the system is available at both sites.
“You can follow the buses on all six of our fixed routes, plus the Averett Cougar Express and the Mainline Trolley,” Transportation Director Marc Adelman said. “It is real-time information about where the bus you want to ride is at. It’s easy to use and I hope the tracking system will be helpful information for our riders.”
Riders can choose to view all routes at one time or view individual bus runs. Icons will show the current location of the buses in real time, and every few seconds, the bus icons will move to identify their movement to a new location.
The bus locator system also provides other options to view information about transit operations, including the location of transfer points, service schedules for each route, and bus stop locations.
Established in 1977, Danville Transit provides fixed route and door-to-door reserve-based services, as well as demand-response services for persons with disabilities. The transit system has a fleet of 27 buses, including two trolley buses purchased in 2005.
