The Danville Life Saving Crew, the Danville Police Department, and the Danville Fire Department were dispatched to a report of someone in the Dan River this morning (11/2/18) at 10:04am. Apparatus arrived at Camilla Williams Park on Memorial Drive two minutes later. Witnesses advised a male subject had entered the water and could no longer be seen. A search of the river bank was started in accessible areas down to the Union Street Bridge. Personnel were also watching the river in several areas down to the pedestrian bridge. The DLSC deployed a drone to assist with the search. During the search the drone was able to located the victim just off the river bank. The victim was deemed non-viable. A DLSC boat recovered the victim and he was carried to a DLSC ambulance. The victim was found and recovered in approximately 45 minutes.
According to DPD, there will be no further investigation. DLSC, DPD, and DFD units were on scene for approximately two hours.
