[ARCHIVED] City extends waiver on debris collection limits

Public Works notice

The Public Works Department is extending until Nov. 16 its waiver on restrictions for collection of tree limbs, brush and other storm debris for residents who pay the full refuse fee. In addition, restrictions are being waived until Nov. 16 for collection of flood-damaged furniture and household items.

Residents who do not pay the full refuse fee and businesses will need to use their private hauler.

The restrictions waived include the volume and weight of debris and the size of the debris pile.

For small household items such as books, residents are asked to box or bag the items in order to allow for quicker collection.

For debris, residents are asked to place the debris at the edge of their property line, but do not block sidewalks or allow the debris to extend into the roadway. Do not mix yard waste with other debris or garbage. Tree stumps, root balls and hazardous waste are not collected.

Automated collection of trash remains on schedule. Loose-leaf collection crews have been assisting with storm cleanup and recovery, but they will resume full-scale collection of loose leaves on Monday, Nov. 12.

Since Tropical Storm Michael, crews have collected about 2,200 truckloads of tree limbs, brush and other storm debris, as well as about 300 tons of flood-damaged furniture and household items.
