The Public Works Department is asking drivers to report the locations of potholes on city streets by calling the department’s administrative office from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The number is 799-5245.
Public Works Director Rick Drazenovich said Friday that the city is experiencing a bigger problem with potholes this winter.
"That’s because of the wet weather and the fluctuation of cold and warm temperatures that we have been experiencing,” Drazenovich said. “We are repairing them as we become aware of them.”
Citizens can help by calling the main office to report locations of potholes, he said.
Potholes form when water seeps into cracks in the asphalt, and then down into the roadbed. The repeated freezing and thawing of water creates larger gaps and cracks in the asphalt. As traffic drives over the weakened asphalt, the street surface comes apart.
