Danville Fire Department Responded to a reported structure fire at 423 Melrose Dr. just before 10 am this morning.Upon arrival crews found a two story residential structure with smoke and flames showing from the attached garage. Crews made an interior attack on the structure while another crew searched the structure for occupants. It was quickly determined that the structure was under renovation and was unoccupied at the time of the fire.The attack crew was able to contain the fire to the garage portion of the structure, with the rest of the structure only suffering heat and smoke damage.The Danville fire department had three engines, one ladder truck a safety officer and a Battalion Chief on scene for approximately an hour and a half. The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshall's office and determined to have been started by discarded smoking materials. No injuries were reported and damage to the structure were moderate.
