Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 1079 Halifax Rd at approximately 1:30 pm this afternoon. Upon arrival units found heavy smoke pushing from around the roof line. Units were able to quickly verify that the structure was unoccupied. Firefighters entered the structure and were able to access the attic where the fire was burning. Crews were able to extinguish the fire in about thirty minutes. Once the fire was extinguished crews remained on the scene for approximately an hour and a half checking for hidden fires and assisting the Fire Marshall with an investigation. According to the Fire Marshall the cause of the fire was determined to be discarded smoking materials. Three engines, one ladder truck a safety officer and a Battalion Chief responded. No injuries were reported and damage to the residence was moderate.
