[ARCHIVED] Property survey set for DCC area on Saturday

The Danville Neighborhood Development Corporation (DNDC) on Saturday, Feb. 2, will survey property in the neighborhood surrounding Danville Community College. The survey marks the first step toward developing a revitalization plan for the area.

The neighborhood sits between Druid Hills, Grove Park and Southwyk Farms, and has a number of blocks that need improvement. The surveys will identify existing conditions and land use, particularly the physical condition of housing and vacant lots.

This data will identify homes in need of repair, hazardous structures that need to be demolished, illegal dumping sites to be cleared, as well as sites for new housing. The information will be translated onto maps as the DNDC works with neighborhood residents, business owners and other community stakeholders to develop a neighborhood revitalization plan.

A smartphone app by Loveland Technologies will be used to collect the information. App training sessions are 45 minutes long and scheduled for 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday at 1007 Bonner Ave. (DCC's Temple Building, Room 108).  Anyone interested in participating may choose a training session to attend, download the app, and head out to survey on specified streets.

The survey effort is not only an opportunity for residents in this area of Danville, but also anyone who cares to volunteer to take a closer look at neighborhood conditions in their city, and to join forces with others to work towards a positive change. Those interested in participating are invited to visit the Facebook Event Page at DanvilleNDC for more information and to sign up.
