Danville Fire Department received a call for a product in a small stream at 154 James Road. After investigating it was determined to be fuel oil. The leaking tank was controlled and the product that was in the stream was also contained. Danville Fire Department and its Regional Hazardous Material Team was able to control the leak and contain the product before it reached any major waterways such as the Dan River. There is no danger to the water system or the public. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (VDEQ) and Regional Haz-Mat officer have been contacted. A cleanup contractor has been notified to clean up the spill. Danville Fire Department had 9 personnel on scene for about 3 hours. Also on scene was Danville PD and Public Works. Danville Emergency Management along with the State Haz-Mat officer will monitor the cleanup.
