[ARCHIVED] House fire

Danville Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 116 Hamilton Street on Sunday at approximately 8 pm. Four Engines, One Ladder, and two support vehicles initially responded with 20 personnel. Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Police Department, and Water and Gas also responded in support roles to the scene. Initial fire attack crews found smoke showing from the eaves of the home, further investigation found that the kitchen area had heavy fire involvement. It was quickly determined that no one was at home at that time. Utilities were controlled and a simultaneous attack of the fire was made while other crews searched the home for occupants. The fire was contained to the kitchen area with heavy damage and the rest of the home received minor to moderate smoke damage. Most of the occupants personal belongings were spared from damage. The Fire Marshalls office made a determination that the kitchen stove had been left on while the occupants left the house after power outages in the area from damage from high winds. The power was restored while the occupants were still not home resulting in the kitchen fire. Occupants of the home are staying with relatives until other arrangements can be made.
