[ARCHIVED] Danville launches new geographic data hub

The City of Danville today announced the launch of a new geographic information website for the public, the Danville Geographic Data Hub. This site features data available for search or download, as well as maps that come to life at the click of a mouse.

The Data Hub can assist residents with something as simple as parcel identification, points of interest, or even find where to vote by viewing precincts and polling locations.

“Our goal is to continue to make data more easily available,” said geographic information systems (GIS) officer Rachel Rupe. “We developed the Data Hub as a website where citizens can explore and download our publicly available GIS data and utilize popular mapping applications.”

Eight topical categories contain over 35 feature layers that can be downloaded in multiple formats. Viewers can preview the data by first viewing its geometry and attributes.

In addition to the data categories, Danville web mapping applications are featured on the site so that viewers can explore examples of how the data is applied.

“In this way, the Data Hub serves as a single site for both those who want to download the GIS data and those who want to view how that data is used within a web map,” Rupe said.

There are also additional links for viewers who are interested in learning more about GIS and how to manipulate the data. Visit the new Danville Geographic Data Hub: https://data-danvillegis.opendata.arcgis.com/
