Make Danville Shine logo

The Make Danville Shine Expo will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Community Market at 629 Craghead St. The event is free and open to the public.

Home and property maintenance experts will be there to teach you and your neighbors the tricks of their trades as well as give away discounts and freebies. Additionally, there will crafts and activities for kids of all ages. Hot dogs and snacks will be provided.

Take advantage of free document shredding services courtesy of the Danville Police Department and Commonwealth Document Management.

This expo will be held in conjunction with the Farmers Market and will kick off the seventh annual Make Danville Shine campaign, which is a month-long initiative to encourage every resident to focus on maintenance, upkeep and beautification of their property and to assist neighbors who may not be able to do so due to age or disability.

This cleanup campaign is a big step in the City’s blight eradication efforts.

Every resident can take part in the Make Danville Shine cleanup campaign. Below are easy ways to participate:

  • Clean out the gutters of your home.
  • Repaint your shutters, front door or fence.
  • Clear your yard of weeds, vines, and overgrowth.
  • Landscape your yard using flowers, mulch, and other materials.
  • Set debris, trash, appliances and furniture at the curbside for city Public Works crews to pick up.

To assist residents, the Community Development Department is holding this home improvement and lawn care expo.

The Public Works Department again this year will allow oversized piles of separated yard waste and household debris to be placed at residential curbsides for collection. It also will waive the cost of tire disposal for up to four tires per household.

By appointment, Public Works crews will collect at no charge heavy debris such as bricks, rock and cinder blocks.

For neighborhood cleanups, groups can make an appointment for the use of roll-off containers. Appointments also can be made for grapple “bucket” truck collections. To make appointments for these services please call 434-799-5245
