[ARCHIVED] Police warn of traffic congestion at graduation

Traffic delays sign

Danville Police warn of heavy traffic in the area of Averett University’s North Campus on Friday evening, May 31, due to the school graduation ceremony for George Washington High.

The graduation ceremony for the high school is scheduled at 7 p.m. in the E. Stuart Grant Center at the North Campus. Guests attending the ceremony have been instructed to arrive one hour before the event as the doors open for seating at 6 p.m.

Heavy traffic along Mount Cross Road, as well as Piedmont Drive, Riverside Drive, and Westover Drive, is expected before and following the graduation, police said on Thursday.

Motorists are advised to slow down and proceed with caution, allow ample time to reach their destination, or consider alternate routes.

Danville Public Schools earlier this month issued a news release with graduation ceremony details. We have posted that news release on the City’s website. Here is a link.
