[ARCHIVED] Structure fire on Plum Street

The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 305 Plum Street today (June 20th) at 12:31 pm. Crews arrived at 12:35 pm and found a small one story house with moderate smoke coming from the structure. Engine 1’s crew (from Lynn St fire station) pulled a hand line and entered the structure to locate the fire and extinguish it. Ladder 1’s crew set up a ventilation fan and then entered the house to search for occupants. Engine 5’s crew (from Third Ave fire station) secured a water supply, shut off utilities to the building and then pulled an additional hand line for back up. Engine 7’s crew (from Airport Drive fire station) established a Rapid Intervention Team and set up equipment.

The fire was quickly knocked down and determined to be under control at 12:54 pm. One bedroom of the house sustained heavy fire and water damage, with the rest of the house sustaining heat and smoke damage thus causing the house to be condemned.

The occupants were located safely outside the house.

The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, a ladder truck, two command units, a safety officer, a rehab unit and two Fire Marshals. Nineteen fire personnel were on the scene for 1 hour and 30 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and Danville Police Department assisted on scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
