Danville Parks and Recreation’s Annual Fourth of July Celebration is set to kick off on Thursday, July 4, with the Patriot Challenge Trail Run and finish up, as always, with the grand fireworks display.
Patriot Challenge
The trail run will begin at 8 a.m. at Anglers Park and will feature a 5K, 10K, and Children’s Fun Run followed by everyone’s favorite: an ice cream social! The race will be held on the Anglers Ridge Mountain Bike Trail system. Online registration ends July 1. The cost is $30 per runner for both races. Registration goes up $10 the day of the race (cash only).

July 4 Celebration at the Crossing
The gates of the Carrington Pavilion will open at 6 p.m. for an evening of activities and entertainment including a concert, children’s activities, rides, vendors, and more.
Admission is free; however, there will be food vendors on site.
Below is the evening’s schedule:
- 6 p.m. – Gates Open
- 6:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. – Captain Jim’s Magic Show
- 7 p.m. – Lapin Strings Recital
- 7:45 p.m. – Opening Remarks by Mayor Alonzo Jones
- 7:50 p.m. – Danville Symphony Orchestra
- Dusk – Grand Fireworks Display (weather permitting)
Fireworks Information
The fireworks display is slated for dusk, weather permitting.
As they were last year, fireworks will be launched from Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Bridge (Main Street Bridge). The southbound lane (closest to Danville Family YMCA) will close at 1 p.m. The northbound lane will close at 8 p.m.
Motorists can access the Crossing at the Dan and River District via Union Street Bridge and/or Industrial Avenue off of Danville Expressway and are asked to obey all traffic signs.
The train trestle pedestrian bridge at the Crossing will close at 9 p.m.
Dogs should be left at home for their safety and the safety of others.
