The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 772 Glendale Ave today (July 7, 2019) at 5:41 pm. Crews arrived at 5:45 pm and found a small one story house with moderate smoke coming from the rear of the structure. Engine 5’s crew (from Third Ave fire station) shut off utilities to the building, pulled a hand line and entered the structure to locate the fire. Engine 2’s crew (from Piney Forest Rd fire station) secured a water supply and pulled an additional hand line for back up. Ladder 1’s crew set up a ventilation fan and then entered the house to search for occupants. Engine 7’s crew (from Airport Drive fire station) established a Rapid Intervention Team and set up equipment.
Two occupants of the house were located outside the structure with injuries. One was treated and transported by the Danville Life Saving Crew to SAVAH Hospital Emergency Room with a burn to the arm and smoke inhalation. The other occupant was treated by the Danville Life Saving Crew on the scene for smoke inhalation and released.
The fire was located in the kitchen, quickly extinguished and determined to be under control at 5:52 pm. The kitchen sustained moderate fire and water damage, with the rest of the house sustaining heat and smoke damage.
The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, a ladder truck, two command units, a safety officer and a Fire Marshal. Seventeen fire personnel were on the scene for 1 hour and 37 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and Danville Police Department assisted on scene.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office and determined to be cooking related.
The occupants of the house are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
