The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 115 Farrar Street this evening at 6:51 pm. Crews arrived at 6:55 pm and found a medium sized two story house fully involved in fire. It was determined to be a defensive operation. Engine 5’s crew (from Third Ave fire station) pulled a hand line and began a defensive attack on the structure to extinguish of the fire. Engine 2’s crew (from Piney Forest Road fire Station) secured a water supply and then pulled an additional hand line for extinguishment. Ladder 1’s crew set up the ladder and began to flow water. Engine 7’s crew (from Airport Road fire station) secured a second water supply for the Ladder operation.
The fire was knocked down and determined to be under control at 7:42 pm. The house sustained major fire and water damage and the building was condemned. The house was vacant at the time of the fire.
The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, a safety officer, a rehab unit and a Fire Marshal. Eighteen fire personnel were on the scene for 4 hours. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and Danville Police Department assisted on scene. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office and determined to be incendiary. A suspect was arrested on scene and charged with arson.
