A section of Mount Cross Road – from Lowes Drive to Old Mount Cross Road – is scheduled to be closed to all traffic for three nights, starting Sunday night, Sept. 29. The section will be reopened each morning for daytime travel.
The full closure at night will allow for the installation of a storm drainage pipe across Mount Cross Road.
The detour will be in effect on the following dates and times:
- Sunday night, Sept. 29, from 6 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday
- Monday night, Sept. 30, from 7 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday
- Tuesday night, Oct. 1, from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 7 a.m. Wednesday
During these times, all traffic will be detoured onto Lowes Drive and Old Mount Cross Road. Motorists should slow down when approaching this area, be alert to the altered traffic pattern, and allow more time to reach their destination.
The pipe that will be installed during these times across Mount Cross Road will connect the new storm drains that are being put in place on both sides of the roadway as part of the Mount Cross Road improvement project.
In addition to the installation of storm drains, the project involves the widening of Mount Cross Road from Lowe’s Drive to Dimon Drive to five lanes, with a center turn lane. Expansion is necessary because of increasing traffic volume in that area.
The project, which covers about three-tenths of a mile, began in November and is scheduled to be completed before the end of the year.
Virginia Carolina Paving is the contractor.
