[ARCHIVED] Police Dept. implements tip reporting application

The Danville Police Department today announced the implementation of a web-based and mobile platform that allows citizens to anonymously submit crime tips, suspicious behavior, and bullying information from their personal computers or smartphone.

The platform is branded as CARE, which stands for Community Action Response and Engagement.

“CARE is the perfect name for our efforts to make Danville a safer community and a place of belonging, acceptance, and respect for all people,” Mayor Alonzo Jones said Tuesday. “With this platform, we are enhancing these efforts by modernizing the way we communicate, especially the way young people communicate.”

The platform uses P3 Tip Management Software. The P3 name signifies Public, Police, and Private sectors — all working together to solve and prevent crime.

Police Chief Scott Booth said citizens can still submit tips through the Crime Stoppers hotline at 434-793-0000, but the web-based and mobile platform allows users to submit tips far more easily as well as upload images, video, audio, and documents.

“It’s the new and improved way of reporting tips,” Booth said. “If citizens just sent a picture of a license plate, it could be a significant piece of information for us.”

Also, the platform allows citizens to update their crime tips and accept feedback from the Police Department.

“With the new platform, we’re able to communicate back and forth with tipsters, allowing for dialogue,” Booth said. “We are asking all of our citizens to use the CARE tip form online or consider downloading the P3 app to their mobile device through Google Play or the App Store.”

A link to CARE can be found on the Police Department website and in future Police Department media releases. A direct link to the tip form is also included in this release.

Implementation of the platform, which includes Most Wanted information and links to Police Department social media, was made possible through a $2,500 award from the Walmart Local Community Grant Program.
