[ARCHIVED] Resurfacing to begin on Riverside Drive section

Traffic alert sign

UPDATE: Weather permitting, milling and paving will begin Tuesday, Oct. 29, on the eastbound lanes of Riverside Drive from Piedmont Drive to Westover Drive. The work will require alternating lane closures.

Crews will start with the left lane, then move to the center lane, and finish with the right lane. The ramp from Piedmont Drive to Riverside Drive eastbound will be closed during the milling and paving. The ramp closure is scheduled tentatively on Thursday morning, weather permitting.

Today, crews are completing milling and paving on the eastbound lanes of South Boston Road from Oakland Avenue to Riverpoint Drive.

The milling and paving of sections of Riverside Drive and South Boston Road is part of a list of resurfacing projects funded by the Virginia Department of Transportation’s State of Good Repair program. The program provides funding for deteriorated pavements and structurally deficient bridges.

Over the next two weeks, resurfacing also will take place on sections of Central Boulevard, Memorial Drive, and Main Street.

Adams Construction is the contractor.

Motorists are urged to slow down and be alert to altered traffic patterns or consider an alternate route.
