A 12-year-old girl is being treated after being struck by a vehicle this afternoon.
At approximately 2:34 pm today, a City of Danville School Bus came to a stop from Haynesworth Dr. at the intersection of Elizabeth St. The school bus stopped for the purpose of unloading a student passenger on Elizabeth St. After coming to a stop, the Westwood Middle School student exited the bus to cross Elizabeth St. At that time a 2009 Chevrolet Pickup owned by Thompson Trucking in Concord, VA was traveling south on Elizabeth St. The truck crossed over to the northbound side of Elizabeth St. to get around the bus and struck the 12-year-old student. Witnesses indicated that the warning lights were in operation at the time of the collision. The victim was conscious at the scene and transported to SOVAH Health-Danville for treatment of her injuries. As a result, David Maurice Durham, age 81, was charged with passing a stopped school bus in violation of Virginia State Code 46.2-859.
