Danville Police officers on Thursday, Nov. 14, walked door-to-door in the Paxton Street/Jefferson Street neighborhood. The community engagement walk was the 11th of the year and the department’s 22nd since these events began.

This neighborhood was chosen because of concerns raised by the community after a recent homicide in the area.

Police officers were joined by members of the Fire Department, Commonwealth’s Attorney Office, Adult Detention, and Emergency Operations Center.

The community engagement walks serve as a platform to build public trust and develop positive relationships between officers and community members. During the walk, Police talk with residents about their concerns and what the department is doing to address them.

This year, walks have been held in the following neighborhoods: Virginia Avenue, Westover Manor, Third Avenue, Windsor Heights, Lee and Riverview, Girard, and Macon and Hartford streets as well as the Main Street business community.

In 2018, walks were in the neighborhoods surrounding Cardinal Village, G.L.H. Johnson Elementary School, Old West End, Woodrow Wilson School, Almagro, Woodside Village Apartments, Cedarbrook, Henry Street, White Rock, Seminole Trail, and Druid Hills.
