[ARCHIVED] House fire on Wyllie Avenue

The Danville Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1117 Wyllie Avenue this morning at 1:19 am. Apparatus arrived in less than five minutes to find heavy smoke showing from a small, 1-story house. The occupant of the residence met the firefighters at the street and advised everyone was out of the house. Heavy fire was found in the back rooms of the house. The fire was placed under control in 16 minutes. The back of the house sustained significant fire damage. The rest of the house received smoke and heat damage. The Assistant Fire Marshal investigated the fire and found the cause to be a drop cord that shorted out.

The occupant of the house and her dog will not be able to stay at the house. The dog was transported to the Danville Area Humane Society for safe keeping until the owner can make other arrangements. The occupant is being assisted by the local chapter of the American Red Cross. There were no injuries.

The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder, a safety officer, and a battalion chief. The assistant fire marshal responded after the incident was placed under control. A total of 16 personnel were on scene for a little over three hours. The DFD received assistance from the Danville Life Saving Crew, Red Cross, Danville Water & Gas, Danville Power & Light, and the Humane Society.
