Danville Police talked a suicidal woman off a bridge early this morning.
At approximately 7:21 am, a Danville Police Officer was crossing the Martin Luther King, Jr. Bridge and observed a woman displaying signs of mental distress. The 18-year-old female was threatening to jump into the Dan River, and with assistance from a CIT trained counselor with Danville Pittsylvania Community Services who was passing through at the time, they talked her into getting help. Negotiations lasted for approximately 30 minutes, and the bridge was reopened shortly before 8:00 am.
The woman was transported to Sovah Health Danville and continues to be evaluated.
