City Council will meet on Tuesday, March 17, in a business session at 7 p.m., followed by a work session. Both sessions are open to the public.
The business session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St.
The work session will be held on the same floor, but across the hall in the Council Conference Room. In work sessions, Council reviews non-routine matters that will be voted upon in future business meetings.
During the business session, City Council is scheduled to vote on two federal grants for operations at W.W. Moore Jr. Detention Home. One grant is for providing food service. The other grant is for electronic monitoring and outreach programs.
In other matters, City Council is scheduled to vote on three appointments, an amendment to a cost and revenue sharing agreement with the Staunton River Regional Industrial Facility Authority, and a resolution of support for minor league baseball.
Also, City Council will hold three first readings on grants for a recreation program, aviation awareness promotion, and completion of airport terminal improvements.
A first reading is an introductory step required by City code before certain matters can be voted upon by City Council. This step serves to provide public notice of pending action. Council cannot vote on the grants Tuesday. The earliest vote that can take place will be the March 3 City Council meeting.
During the work session, the City Council will review the latest financial statements and hear a presentation of a compensation study for city employees.
