The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 224-1A Clement Ave this morning (May 13, 2020) at 2:30 am. Crews were returning from another call and arrived on scene at 2:31 am and found a small one story house with heavy smoke coming from the front of the house. All occupants were outside of the house. Ladder 1’s crew (from Lynn Street Fire Station) pulled a hand line, set up a ventilation fan and entered the house. Engine 2’s crew (from Piney Forest Road Fire Station) pulled a line for water supply. Electric and gas utilities were controlled. The fire was located in the kitchen and quickly knocked down at 2:42 am.
The kitchen sustained heavy fire damage with the rest of the house sustaining moderate heat, smoke and water damage.
The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, a ladder truck, one command unit, a safety officer and a Fire Marshal. Sixteen fire personnel were on the scene for 1 hour and 46 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and Danville Police Department assisted on scene. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office and determined to be unattended cooking.
The occupants of the house will be staying with family members.
