[ARCHIVED] Structure fire on Purdum Road

The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 225 Purdum Road this evening (August 7, 2020) at 11:25 pm. Crews arrived at 11:30 pm and found a small one story house with smoke and fire on the outside of the house. Engine 5’s crew (from Third Ave Fire Station) pulled a hand line and began a defensive attack on the structure to extinguish the fire outside the house, then entered the house to search for additional fire. Engine 1’s crew (from Lynn Street Fire Station) secured a water supply and then pulled a backup line.  Ladder 1’s crew (from Lynn Street Fire Station) secured the utilities, set a ventilation fan and entered the house to do a primary search for occupants. Engine 7’s crew (from Airport Road Fire Station) sat up equipment and established a Rapid Intervention Crew.

The fire was knocked down quickly and determined to be under control at 11:40 pm. The house sustained moderate fire, heat and water damage. The house was vacant at the time of the fire.

The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, a safety officer and two Fire Marshals. Seventeen fire personnel were on the scene for 2 hours.  The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and Danville Police Department assisted on scene. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office and determined to be incendiary.
