[ARCHIVED] Virtual learning centers offered for students

As families continue to face educational challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Danville Parks and Recreation is offering Virtual Learning Centers at both Coates and Glenwood Recreation Centers for students age 5-12.

The program will run from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and will follow all CDC guidelines and regulations, including social distancing and the wearing of masks during transitional periods.

Students will be separated into small groups and provided with learning support through Internet access and learning assistance from staff. In addition, participants will be able to participate in structured crafts, play, and learning opportunities through Parks and Recreation’s after school enrichment program at the conclusion of the school day.

Students attending, or whose parents teach at, Danville Public Schools, or work for the City of Danville qualify for a reduced rate through the CARES Act. Non-DPS students may participate for an additional fee.

Danville Public Schools will provide breakfast, lunch, and a take-home dinner. Spaces are limited. To register, call 434-799-5150. The program will start on Aug.24.

In addition, the staff at Stonewall Recreation Center will be able to provide Internet access, supervision, and meals from Danville Public Schools to a limited number of students Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
