Danville Police arrested a 17-year-old for first-degree murder and related firearms charges for the 2016 shooting death of 41-year-old Jonathan McDonald Hamlett.
Danville Police arrested the 17-year-old Danville resident without incident on Tuesday afternoon at a house in Danville. The juvenile is being held at the W.W. Moore, Jr. Juvenile Detention Home awaiting trial.
Detectives continued to follow leads in this case and worked closely with the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office in order to bring these charges.

The man who was shot yesterday evening on Chatelaine Ave. has died.
Shortly before midnight, the victim was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at Danville Regional Medical Center. He was identified as Jonathan McDonald Hamlett, age 41, of Danville. He will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Roanoke for an autopsy. The investigation is active and ongoing.

On 10-05-2016, at 7:55PM, the Danville Police Department responded to a reported gunshot victim in the 300 block of Chatelaine Avenue. Officers located a 41-year-old black male in the street on Chatelaine Avenue near the intersection with Albert Street. The victim was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Danville Regional Medical Center where he is being treated at the time of this release. The investigation is ongoing.
