[ARCHIVED] Three ways to vote in Nov. 3 General Election

Vote graphic

The general registrar for the city of Danville is reminding voters that there are three ways to vote in the Nov. 3 General Election and Danville's special elections.

Voters in Danville will cast ballots in elections for president, the U. S. Senate, the Fifth District House of Representatives, and Danville City Council. Also, there are ballot measures for casino gaming and two proposed state constitutional amendments. A sample ballot is available on the local voter registration/registrar website.

Voters can cast their ballots at the polls, by mail or early in-person, said General Registrar Peggy Petty on Tuesday.

Voting at the polls

Voting will occur from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3, in the precinct where a voter is assigned.

Voting by mail

Voting by mail is an option due to a new state law allowing registered voters to request an absentee ballot without needing a reason or excuse.

Voters must first complete a “Vote by Mail” application, and then their ballot would be mailed to them. The deadline for the application to be received in the Danville voter registration/registrar’s office is by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. The office is located at 530 Main St., first floor, suite 100.

Voters also may use the Virginia Department of Elections online portal to submit an application for a ballot.

Voters may return their ballot by mail in the postage-paid envelope provided or use the drop-off location inside the voter registration/registrar’s office during office hours.

Voting early in person

Early voting in person began on Sept. 18. It requires no reason or excuse. Early voting is available at the voter registration/registrar’s office during office hours through Oct. 31. The hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday. Also, early voting will be available at the voter registration/registrar’s office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 31. The office will be closed on Monday, Oct. 12.

Other important dates

The deadline for new voter registrations or changes of address is Tuesday, Oct. 13.
