The Danville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 151 James Road this morning at 6:05am. The first engine arrived in three minutes with heavy smoke showing all the way around the house. Engine 6's crew entered the house to search and extinguish the fire. As they entered fire vented from the roof and backside of the house. Even though firefighters began to extinguish some fire inside the house, they had to back out due to the amount of fire in the rest of the house. Lines were set up outside and the fire was controlled from the outside. Entry into the house was resumed later in the call.
The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder, a safety officer, and one chief officer. The Fire Marshal's Office also responded two of their personnel to assist with the investigation. The investigation is in progress at this time. The fire has displaced two adults and four children. The house has been damaged significantly. The Red Cross is working with the occupants to assist them with their needs. We received assistance from Danville Utilities, the Danville Life Saving Crew, and the Danville Police Department.
Firefighters remain on scene as of 9:20am. We will send out a fire cause later in the day.
