Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 6171 Riverside Dr. Upon arrival units found a two story apartment building with heavy fire and smoke showing from one apartment on the ground floor. The occupant was on the scene and advised that everyone was out of the apartment except for her four cats. Firefighters made an interior attack on the fire while additional crews searched the floor above the fire as well as the fire floor. All four cats were rescued and were ok. Damage to the building was heavy fire damage to one apartment along with smoke damage to the two adjacent apartments. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire was determined to be unattended cooking. The occupant was alerted to the fire by a working smoke detector. Three engines, one ladder truck, a safety officer, and one chief officer responded. No injuries were reported. Units were on the scene for two and a half hours.
