[ARCHIVED] Apartment fire on North Hills Court

The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported apartment fire at 110-G North Hills Court on October 28th at 11:04pm. Apparatus arrived four minutes later and found a three-story apartment building with heavy smoke showing from the first floor. As firefighters entered the building they found fire in the kitchen area. The fire was quickly controlled and there was no fire extension into any other apartments. Two other apartments did have light smoke in them. Firefighters searching the fire apartment rescued the family cat and brought it out to the occupants. There were no injuries.

The Fire Marshal's Office (FMO) investigated and confirmed the fire was started by unattended cooking. The apartment is not livable until repairs can be made. The occupants made arrangements to stay elsewhere. The other five apartments in the building were opened back up to the occupants and they will be able to stay in the apartments. The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder, one safety officer, one chief officer, and the FMO. 17 personnel remained on scene for nearly two and a half hours. We received support from the Danville Life Saving Crew, the Danville Police Department, Water & Gas, Power & Light, and maintenance from the apartment complex.

The DFD reminds everyone that unattended cooking is the number one cause of fires in Danville and across the country. Stay in the kitchen while cooking. Smoke alarms were working in the apartment.
