The Danville Fire Department Responded to a reported structure fire at 428 Gay St. at 12:25 this afternoon. Upon arrival crews found a two story residential structure with heavy smoke coming from a rear basement door. The homeowner met crews outside and advised that everyone was outside and accounted for. Crews made an interior attic into the basement and encountered heavy fire conditions. They were successful in bringing the fire under control with a small amount of fire extending to the first floor. A second crew entered and extinguished the fire on the second floor. Fire damage to the basement was heavy, and smoke damage to the first and second floor was extensive. The cause of the fire was determined to be an overloaded electrical circuit. No injuries were reported. The Red Cross is assisting two occupants that were displaced. Three engines, one ladder, a safety officer, and a chief officer were on scene for two hours.
