[ARCHIVED] Kitchen Fire at 15 Southern Street

The Danville Fire Department responded to a house fire at 15 Southern Street this afternoon at 2:50pm. Engine 4 arrived four minutes later with moderate smoke exiting the one-story house. The occupants advised everyone was out of the house. Engine 4's crew entered and found the kitchen had been on fire. A neighbor that called in the fire used a garden hose to extinguish most of the fire. The fire had extended from the stove top to the cabinets above and around the stove. The cabinets were removed from the house as was the stove. The house was ventilated to clear the smoke.

The cause of the fire was unattended cooking. Fire damage was limited to the area around the stove. There was smoke damage to the rest of the house. The occupants advised they could stay with friends. The DFD responded with three engines, one ladder, one safety officer, one chief officer, and a member of the Fire Marshal's Office. We received assistance from Danville Utilities, the Danville Police Department, and the Danville Life Saving Crew. 16 DFD personnel remained on scene for one hour and twenty minutes.
