Motor vehicle crash results in a fatality
Danville Police are investigating a traffic crash that happened Tuesday around 5:16 p.m. in the area of West Main Street and Park Avenue.
A gray 2016 Range Rover driven by Danville resident Sam Sakellaris, 66, was westbound on West Main Street, and he made a left turn onto Park Ave. The Range Rover struck a black 2015 Yamaha scooter eastbound on West Main Street operated by Peggie Nester, 61 of Danville.
The Danville Lifesaving Crew transported Nester to their Heliport and flew her to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she later died. The driver of the Range Rover, Sakellaris, did not sustain any injuries. There were no other occupants in either vehicle. The Range Rover sustained approximately $2,500 in damages, and the scooter sustained approximately $1,000 in damages.
Sakellaris was charged with Failure to Yield On Left Turn S. C. 46.2-825.
At this time, the investigation is still ongoing.
