Danville Police are conducting a death investigation after a crew of workers clearing trees along a power line right-of-way found human skeletal remains late in the afternoon of December 8.
Officers immediately secured the area and today police investigators and crime scene technicians conducted a thorough grid search for evidence in a heavily wooded area near the Danville Expressway and South Main Street.
Police will send the evidence to the medical examiner’s office to help identify the individual and further investigate the cause and manner of death.
The Danville Police Department treats every death investigation with a thorough response and this case is no exception. We will compare the evidence we have recovered today to the facts in several local missing person cases.
We recognize there are several families in our area who have filed missing person’s reports in recent years and are desperately seeking closure. With this in mind, it would be irresponsible for us to speculate about the identity of these remains. We will maintain contact with these families and release more information when it becomes available.
In the meantime, we ask that anyone with information in this case please contact us at 434-793-0000 or use our crime tips app CARE at https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=818#.
