[ARCHIVED] City Council will meet in business session

The City Council will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 19, in a business session. No work session is scheduled. The business session will begin at 7 p.m. and will be aired by River City TV. Watch it live on cable (Comcast channel 10 and Gamewood channel 122) or streaming on the River City TV Facebook page.

The session will be held in the Council Chambers on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 427 Patton St. Attendees may have their temperature screened and must maintain social distancing due to ongoing public health concerns related to the COVID-19 virus.

Also, visitors will be asked to wear a mask while in the building unless they have a medical condition that exempts them from the mask requirement.

Access to the Municipal Building is limited to the first-floor entrance on Court Street.

The City Council is scheduled to vote on several matters:

  • A resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into an agreement for a 10.6 megawatt battery energy storage project as recommended by the Danville Utility Commission. This project will help reduce rising transmission, capacity, and congestion charges. Under the agreement, Delorean Power would construct, own, and operate a 10.6 megawatt lithium-ion battery storage system at Danville Utilities’ warehouse property on Industrial Avenue. The City would not be responsible for any of the upfront capital costs or the maintenance of the facility.
  • A resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into a moral obligation agreement with Movement Bank in the amount of $470,000 for maintenance and repairs at the warehouse at 816 Monument St. The Industrial Development Authority purchased the property in July 2017. The warehouse has more than 77,500 square foot of available leased space and is currently occupied by Southern States and United Electronic Service Co., a division of Belk,
  • A resolution authorizing an application to the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation for grants to be used for operating and capital costs. A public hearing will precede the vote.
  • Appropriation of a $8,611 grant from the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality for litter prevention and recycling program activities.
  • Appointment of Bryant Hood to the Danville Development Council.

Also, City Council will review the last financial reports.
