The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 114 Freeze Road this evening (February 3, 2021) at 5:00 pm. Crews arrived at 5:02 pm and found a small one story house with heavy fire extending from the house onto the carport. Engine 5’s crew (from Third Ave Fire Station) secured a water supply and pulled a hand line to begin a defensive attack on the structure to extinguish the fire outside the house, then entered the house to search for additional fire. Engine 2’s crew (from Piney Forest Rd Fire Station) pulled a backup line. Ladder 1’s crew (from Lynn Street Fire Station) secured the utilities and entered the house to do a primary search for occupants. Engine 7’s crew (from Airport Road Fire Station) sat up equipment and established a Rapid Intervention Crew.
The fire was knocked down at 5:30pm and determined to be under control at 5:50 pm. The house sustained heavy fire, smoke, heat and water damage. The house was occupied at the time of the fire but all occupants were located safely outside.
The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, a safety officer and one Fire Marshal. Eighteen fire personnel were on the scene for 3 hours and 48 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and Danville Police Department assisted on scene.
The family is being assisted by the American Red Cross as the house is heavily damaged. No injuries were reported but 1 dog was found deceased from the fire.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office.
