Local election officials have received notice to prepare to hold the following political party primaries on Tuesday, June 8: Republican Party — 14th District House of Delegates; Democratic Party — governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, and 14th District House of Delegates.
The Republican Party will hold a convention to nominate its candidate for governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general.
Candidate filing for the primaries ends on March 25. The parties have until March 30 to certify their lists of candidates. If one or fewer candidates have qualified for a particular office, then no primary will be held.
Virginia law allows voters to cast ballots in only one political party primary election when multiple political party primary elections are held on the same day.
The deadline to register to vote in the primaries or to update an existing registration is May 17. The deadline to apply to receive an absentee vote by mail ballot is May 28. The deadline to vote early (absentee) in person is June 5.
Election Day is Nov. 2.
